2020 Club Championship

Due to coronavirus, this year's championship will be held online. Games will not be graded, and will be played with a time limit of 30 minutes per player for all moves. Six players have entered, so the competition will be an all-play-all. The cross table is below.

2019

This year's Blitz tournament was held on 21st May, with 16 people taking part. Mark Hann won with a perfect 6 out of 6, with Tom Tomkins and Reg Clucas joint second on 4½. It was encouraging to see several juniors taking part and enjoying the event. A great showing by Shishir, who beat Thomas in Round 5 before losing to Harry in the final round. Harry had an excellent tournament too, beating his Dad along the way!

2019 Club Championship

This year we are running the tournament as a Swiss, with everyone in the same section. Everyone is eligible for the Premier. Instead of having a separate Major section, the Major Trophy will be awarded to the highest scoring player in the lower half of the draw, i.e. grade 116 and below (unless of course that person wins the Premier!). All games will be submitted for grading.

Please consult our fixture lists before arranging games, to ensure you don't arrange one on a night when you are likely to be needed by one of our teams. Send results as soon as possible to Mark Hann (organiser) and Reg Clucas (for grading submission and to update this web page).

Time control: All moves in 80 minutes, with a 10 second increment from move 1. If a digital clock is not available, 30 moves in 75 minutes followed by a 15 minute quickplay finish. (Team matches will take precedence for use of digital clocks).

Rounds should be completed by the following dates -
1. To complete by 28/2.
2. To complete by 30/4.
3. To complete by 18/6.
4. To complete by 13/8.
5. To complete by 30/9.

Congratulations to Peter Hawes, whose last round win over Tom Tomkins gave him the Club Championship. There is just one outstanding game to be played, but it does not affect the various awards which are as follows -

President's Cup (Club Championship) - Peter Hawes
Committee Cup (Runner up) - Sheraz Khalil, Nick Lowe, Reg Clucas
Major - Vijay Kakarparthi, Stuart Sumner

Below are cross tables with all games now complete. In the Premier, Mark needed to beat Tom in his final game to win the event outright, or draw to force a play-off with Reg. However Tom upset the form book with a win, leaving Reg as 2016 champion. Congratulations to Steve Ward who has won the Major. (Points scored against players in italics have been removed from the reckoning. These points are shown in brackets. However, all games played will be submitted for grading).

2014

2014 Club Championship

Final results tables for the 2014 club championship are below. Results have been sent to the ECF for grading.

The tables below show the July 2014 ECF grades. Grades shown in brackets are estimates based on a small number of games, where the player does not have an ECF grade.

There was an exciting finish in the final round of the Premier, with Mark, Karl and Reg on 3½ all needing a win to guarantee at least a share of first place, and Richard a half point behind also in with a chance. Richard beat Karl, and Reg was lucky to escape with a draw against Graham, which left Mark needing to beat Nick in a double rook ending to claim sole first place. This he duly did, leaving Reg and Richard sharing second place.
